Senior Systems Engineer – AWS & Security
This is a remote position. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer contractor with deep expertise in AWS infrastructure and security best practices. This role will support our Infrastructure & Operations team, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security of our systems, with a focus on implementing and maintaining AWS security controls. Requirements Core Responsibilities: • Manage and optimize AWS infrastructure (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM,CloudWatch, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Security Hub, etc.) with a strong emphasis on security best practices. • Implement and maintain security monitoring, logging, and alerting in alignment with AWS Data Lake Security Monitoring Recommendations. • Automate infrastructure tasks using PowerShell, Terraform, or equivalent tooling. • Maintain and improve system hardening, patching, and configuration standards. • Assist in troubleshooting escalated infrastructure issues and providing root cause analysis. • Support backup, disaster recovery, and high availability configurations for critical workloads. • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure infrastructure security requirements are met for all projects. • Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation for systems, processes, and configurations. Required Skills & Experience: • 5+ years in systems engineering roles, with strong AWS cloud infrastructure experience (IaaS and PaaS). • Proven experience implementing AWS security controls, including IAM policy design, key management, encryption, logging, and monitoring. • Familiarity withAWS Data Lake architecturesand security monitoring best practices. • Hands-on experience with infrastructureautomation tools(Terraform, CloudFormation, PowerShell, etc.). • Strong understanding of system hardening (Windows and Linux), patch management, and security compliance frameworks (NIST, CIS, PCI, etc.). • Experience withmonitoring tools and alerting systems(CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar). • Strong troubleshooting skills in hybrid infrastructure environments. • Strong communication skills in English. Preferred Qualifications: • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Security – Specialty. • Experience with security event correlation tools (SIEM) and integration with AWS logging services. • Experience with ELK Stack (Elastic Stack) management and/or implementation. • Familiarity with data lake security in large-scale analytics environments. • Knowledge of ITIL processes and change management. Engagement Details: • Contract role, full-time hours (PST) • Expected to be available for escalations and urgent troubleshooting when needed. This position is remote for LATAM-based applicants.
